About
I’m Barbara Filipowska. I work in digital accessibility, where I audit websites and applications, advise teams and teach people how to make digital products more accessible.
Before moving into IT, I spent many years working with music. I studied composition and music theory, taught music theory and wrote music of my own. I still compose occasionally, although much less often than I once did.
I also write. Some of that writing is about accessibility and technology, but not all of it. I’m interested in creative work, software, music, the way tools shape what we can do with them, and the unnecessary complexity people sometimes build around otherwise perfectly reasonable things.
I’m blind, which inevitably affects some of the things I write about and the way I experience technology. It isn’t, however, the subject of everything I write.
This website is a place for work that belongs to me rather than to a company, publication or particular series. There is no strict publishing schedule and no carefully constructed content strategy. I write something when I think I have something worth saying.
